The decade of London, and Barbara. Moved to London in 1973 to start a career as a songwriter (south Manchester's answer to Bernie Taupin). Did a season at Pontins in Blackpool and then came back to London writing kerning programmes for the Linotype. Got married, and then ended the decade by founding APT.

Apprenticeship

Finished 5 year apprenticeship as a compositor & headed for London

Hello Campers!

Typesetter at Watkins Repro when Ted Heath brought in 3-day week.
Opted for a season at Pontins Blackpool as a childrens bluecoat, Uncle Phil.

1975
Tied the knot

Married my lovely Babs and borrowed her uncle's Hillman Hunter and honeymooned above his chemist shop in South Wales

1976
Zeta

Became typesetting manager of Zeta on photon pacesetters

1977
BEST

Took over as typesetting manager at BEST on Alphatype system

1978
Learning & Kerning

Helped write the original kerning programmes for the new ATP Linotype VIP typesetting system.

1979
APT

Co-founded type studio APT Photoset with best mates Ken and Zeek on a wing & a prayer.
